HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Review: My Initial Thoughts

HP Laptop 15t dw300 Review: My Initial Thoughts

With the vast number of HP laptops in the market, there are lots to choose from. However, one HP laptop that stands out amongst its peers is the HP Laptop 15t dw300.

This laptop was released in 2020 and offers an impressive list of hardware specs with optimal performance. As a matter of fact, a lot of individuals should be able to afford this laptop due to its inexpensive price tag.

Specifically, as of May 2022 (when this review article was published), the HP Laptop 15t dw300 had a starting price of $477.85. Having said all that, you must be wondering how well this laptop can perform compared to its competitors.

To satisfy your curiosity, you need to read the subsequent sections below.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Design, Display, Ports, And Connectivity Review

The HP Laptop 15t dw300 comes with a sleek design and a premium appearance. This is a really impressive feat considering the fact that the laptop isn’t too expensive.

To give more details, the entire chassis of this laptop is made of metal with a brushed finish. Due to its metal build, the laptop appears solid and should be able to withstand a reasonable level of harsh/rough handling.

Besides, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 is available in four different eye-catching color options. Thus, you can purchase this laptop in jet black, silver, chalkboard gray, and pale gold.

Impressively, you can also buy the laptop in a combination of pale gold and silver color. Honestly, HP carefully selected these unique color options to single this laptop out among its competitors.

Therefore, any color option you choose will definitely give the laptop a flashy and beautiful look. However, this review focuses on the HP Laptop 15t dw300 that ships in silver color.

That aside, the lid of the laptop gives off a smooth and pleasant feel when you hold or run your hand through it. Moreover, this lid features a silver reflective HP logo at the center.

Furthermore, a bar hinge attaches the lid to the base of the HP Laptop 15t dw300. This hinge is very sturdy and prevents the lid from flexing or wobbling too much when nudged.

However, due to its extreme sturdiness, you might not be able to open the lid with just one hand. Nevertheless, upon opening the lid, you will be amazed by the laptop’s beautiful interior.

The first thing that will catch your attention in the interior is the laptop’s well-fixed and neat 15.6-inch display. Impressively, this display has two resolution options that users can choose from.

Hence, you can choose between HD (1366 x 768 pixels) or FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) resolution. Anyone of these resolution options should allow the laptop’s display to deliver decent and clear picture quality.

However, choosing the FHD resolution option for the display is best. This is because the picture quality will be sharper and clearer as the FHD resolution features a higher number of pixels.

Gladly, this review is based on the HP Laptop 15t dw300 with an FHD resolution display. With this resolution option, the laptop’s display comes with an IPS panel for wide viewing angles.

Therefore, watching the display off-center won’t result in any issue or loss in picture quality. Besides, the display offers a maximum brightness of 250 nits.

Although this maximum brightness isn’t the best, it is enough for the display to fight off reflection in moderately-lit areas. Speaking of reflection, the HP Laptop 15t dw300’s display features an anti-glare coating on its surface.

This anti-glare coating helps in reducing the effects of reflections and sun glares on the display when the laptop is used in well-lit areas. Hence, using the HP Laptop 15t dw300 outdoors or in well-lit areas should be less bothersome.

Having said that, it is important to note that the HP Laptop 15t dw300 is also available with a touchscreen display. However, you need to know that the touchscreen model of the laptop will cost more than the non-touchscreen model.

Moving on, surrounding the laptop’s display are black micro-edge bezels that are extremely slim. However, the top and bottom bezels are slightly wider than the side bezels.

The reason is that the bottom bezel features an HP logo at the center. The top bezel, on the other hand, features a 720p HD webcam with dual-array microphones at the center.

In terms of performance, this webcam offers good image quality for taking selfies and conducting video calls.

That said, on the base, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 features a chiclet-style keyboard with dedicated number keys. These dedicated number keys make calculation and accounting operations easy on the laptop.

Besides, the keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience due to its well-spaced keys with adequate feedback. Moreover, the keyboard doesn’t flex and the keys don’t make noise when typing.

Hence, typing on this keyboard for a long period of time should be problem-free. Just below the space bar key on the keyboard is the HP Laptop 15t dw300’s touchpad with dedicated click buttons.

This touchpad has a spacious and smooth surface that makes navigation seamless. Also, due to its spacious surface, performing multitouch gestures like pinch-to-zoom on this touchpad should be easy.

Away from the laptop’s base, let us look at the sides, where the ports of the laptop are located. To start with, on the left side, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 has one USB Type-C port, one HDMI port, and an Ethernet port.

Likewise, on the right side, the laptop features two USB Type-A ports and an AC charging port. For wireless connectivity, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 offers Bluetooth 4.2 or 5.0 and three Wi-Fi options.

These Wi-Fi options are Intel 802.11b/g/n/ac (1 x 1), Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (2 x 2), and Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX 201 (2 x 2).

Before rounding up this design review section, let us discuss the dimension and weight of the HP Laptop 15t dw300. Starting with the weight, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 weighs 1750.9 g.

Comparatively, this laptop weighs less than the Lenovo P50s and Dell Latitude 5590. Specifically, the former weighs a massive 2200 g while the latter weighs 1800 g.

Impressively, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 does not only weigh less than these laptops, but it is also less thick than them. To be more specific, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 measures 359.9 x 226.4 x 19.9 mm (W x D x H).

Meanwhile, the Lenovo ThinkPad P50s measures 380.6 x 258.2 x 22.4 – 23.3 mm (W x D x H). Also, the Dell Latitude 5590 measures 376 x 250.7 x 20.6 mm (W x D x H).

In conclusion, despite its inexpensive price tag, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 offers a premium design and multiple color options. Also, this laptop has two resolution options and an optional touchscreen display.

Considering all these, I will be rating the HP Laptop 15t dw300 a nine out of ten in this design review section.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Processor (CPU) Performance Review

HP Laptop 15t dw300 Processor (CPU) Performance Review

The HP Laptop 15t dw300 offers two processor options that users can choose from. Basically, the laptop can either run with an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor or an Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor.

The Intel Core i5 processor option is a quad-core processor with a cache memory of 8 MB. It also features a base frequency of 2.40 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.20 GHz.

On the other hand, the Intel Core i7 processor option is a quad-core processor with a cache memory of 12 MB. Also, this processor has a base frequency of 2.80 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.20 GHz.

Performance-wise, these processor options are powerful eleventh-generation Intel processors that are able to handle most computing tasks. Thus, with either processor, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 shouldn’t have any problem running demanding apps.

Also, the laptop should be able to perform intensive workloads and multitask with ease. However, with the Intel Core i7 processor option, the laptop’s performance will be faster and better.

This is due to the specs of the processor. Essentially, the Intel Core i7 processor offers a larger cache memory, faster base frequency, and faster boost frequency.

Fortunately, for the purpose of this review, I will be evaluating the HP Laptop 15t dw300 with the Intel Core i7-1165G7 processor. With that in mind, let us discuss how well the laptop performed on a Cinebench R15 benchmark test.

In brief, the Cinebench R15 is a benchmark test tool that evaluates a computer’s performance by putting its processor’s cores through a series of workloads. Therefore, this benchmark is divided into two distinct aspects which are the single-core test and the multi-core test.

For clarity, the single-core test measures the computer’s performance when only one of its processor’s cores is being utilized. The multi-core test does the same but with all the processor’s cores being utilized.

Also, the computer with the highest score on these Cinebench R15 tests is considered the best. Thus, based on the test results, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 scored 762 points on the multi-core test.

However, on the single-core test, the laptop scored 221 points. Comparatively, this laptop has a better performance than the Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15IIL.

Precisely, on the Cinebench R15 test, this Lenovo laptop scored 737 points on the multi-core test. Meanwhile, on the single-core test, the laptop scored 182 points.

It is important to mention that the Lenovo IdeaPad S340-15IIL uses an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor.

All things considered, I will rate the HP Laptop 15t dw300 a nine out of ten in this processor review section.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Memory (RAM) Performance Review

The HP Laptop 15t dw300 comes with a DDR4-2666 MHz SDRAM memory type and offers a standard memory of 4 GB. Furthermore, this laptop offers two memory slots and supports a maximum memory of 16 GB.

Hence, with the help of the available memory slot, you can upgrade the laptop’s standard memory to up to 16 GB. However, this review is based on the HP Laptop 15t dw300 with 8 GB RAM.

With this amount of memory, this HP laptop will be able to multitask effectively. Speaking of multitasking, it should be able to open more than 15 Chrome tabs without breaking a sweat.

Furthermore, jumping or switching from one tab to another should be very fast and seamless. Having said that, let me highlight the result of the HP Laptop 15t dw300 on a PCMark 10 test to further verify its performance.

For your information, PCMark 10 is a benchmark test that measures the overall performance of a computer by simulating productivity tasks. Some of these tasks include word processing, web browsing, and video streaming.

It is important to note that a high score on this test equates to good performance. Impressively, at the end of this test, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 topped its category with a score of 5814 points.

Also, it surpassed laptops such as the HP Envy 15-ep0098nr (scored 5553 points) and ASUS VivoBook S15 (scored 5306 points).

Hence, I will rate the HP Laptop 15t dw300 a nine out of ten in this memory review section.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Storage Options And Performance Review

HP Laptop 15t dw300 Storage Options And Performance Review

The HP Laptop 15t dw300 comes with a PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. In addition to that, the laptop supports a maximum storage capacity of 1 TB.

Most people should agree with me when I say 1 TB of storage space is quite sufficient. However, if you think otherwise, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 comes with an SD card reader that allows for storage expansion.

Having said that, let us discuss the laptop’s result on a CrystalDiskMark test to know its storage performance. Briefly, CrystalDiskMark is a benchmark test that estimates the read and write speed of a computer’s storage drive.

For your Information, read speed is the speed at which a storage drive is able to open files. Meanwhile, write speed is the speed at which the storage drive is able to save files.

Moreover, a high “MBps” on this benchmark test equates to a fast read and write speed. On that note, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 delivered a read speed of 1575 MBps on the CrystalDiskMark test.

The laptop also recorded a write speed of 1337 MBps on the test. In comparison, this HP laptop has a faster read and write speed than the Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IIL05, which also uses SSD.

To be more specific, this Lenovo laptop offered a read speed of 1158 MBps on the CrystalDiskMark test. It also recorded a write speed of 1038 MBps.

All in all, I will rate the HP Laptop 15t dw300 a nine out of ten in this storage review section.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Graphics Card Performance Review

Like the processor, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 offers two graphics card options. These options include Intel Iris Xe Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce MX350.

The former has a standard frequency of 1300 MHz. Meanwhile, the latter features a base frequency of 1354 MHz and a boost frequency of 1468 MHz.

Moreover, the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 is a dedicated graphics card while the Intel Iris Xe Graphics is an integrated graphics card. As an integrated graphics card, the Intel graphics card option is embedded into the laptop’s processor.

Hence, unlike the dedicated graphics card, this graphics card lacks a dedicated VRAM. As a result, it has to share the system memory with the processor to perform graphics-related tasks.

Due to this, with the integrated Intel graphics card, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 might not be able to effectively handle graphics-intensive tasks. Also, the laptop won’t be able to smoothly play high-end games.

However, with the dedicated NVIDIA graphics card option, the case is the total opposite. This is because, as a dedicated graphics card, this GPU features a dedicated VRAM of 2 GB GDDR5.

Thus, this graphics card doesn’t have to share the system memory with the processor to carry out graphics-associated tasks. As a result, with the NVIDIA GeForce MX350, this HP laptop should be able to effectively run graphics-demanding apps like AutoCAD.

Also, the laptop will be able to efficiently play most high-end games. For example, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 should be able to play The Witcher 3 (2015) at a smooth frame rate of 69.9 fps.

Not just that, the laptop will be able to play Dota 2 Reborn (2015) at an impressive frame rate of 117 fps (frame per second). Having said that, let us consider the laptop’s result on a 3DMark test to further verify its performance with the NVIDIA GeForce MX350 GPU.

For clarity, 3DMark is a benchmark test tool that evaluates the graphics rendering ability of a computer’s graphics card. Like most benchmark tests, a high score on this graphics benchmark test means good performance.

So, according to the benchmark test result, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 scored 3958 points. In comparison with the ASUS Vivobook 15 K513EQ which also uses an NVIDIA GeForce MX350 GPU, this HP laptop underperformed.

Specifically, this ASUS laptop was able to score 4088 points on the 3DMark test.

Nonetheless, I will rate the HP Laptop 15t dw300 an eight out of ten in this graphics card review section.

HP Laptop 15t Dw300 Battery Life And Performance Review

HP Laptop 15t dw300 Battery Life And Performance Review

The HP Laptop 15t dw300 comes with a 3-cell 41 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic battery. However, the manufacturer (HP) did not indicate the battery life of the laptop.

Hence, to find out the laptop’s battery life, we will be considering its result on a battery rundown test. According to this battery rundown test, the HP Laptop 15t dw300 can last up to 5 hours and 24 minutes.

Sadly, compared with most of its competitors, this HP laptop’s battery life is subpar. For instance, according to the same battery rundown test, the ASUS X555LA can last up to 5 hours and 55 minutes.

Also, the Acer Swift 7 SF713-51 has a battery life of 7 hours and 18 minutes, according to the battery rundown test. By the way, this battery rundown test involves a laptop continuously surfing the web via a Wi-Fi connection till it dies.

After thorough consideration, I will rate the HP Laptop 15t dw300 a seven out of ten in this battery review section.
